Packing That Picks the Box, and Costs You Can Trust

Robert

10/5/2026

This round of SKUSavvy updates takes busywork off your packing stations and makes the numbers behind your inventory more reliable. Packers no longer choose a box by hand, packaging now covers mailers and tubes, weighted average cost ignores stock that was never costed, and you decide exactly where customs values come from on international shipments.

Packing that picks the box for you

When you pack a single-box shipment, SKUSavvy now applies the suggested packaging with your first pack. Packers see the recommendation before they start and no longer stop to pick a box from a list.

The suggestion starts with the packaging you used last time for the same contents, as long as it is in stock in that warehouse. Otherwise SKUSavvy picks the best fit from the packaging you have on hand. If a packer clears the box, it is not applied again, and split and multibox shipments work as they did before.

Mailers and tubes, not just boxes

Packaging can now be set up as a box, a mailer or a tube. For poly and padded mailers, you enter the flat length and width and SKUSavvy works out how thick they can be filled. For tubes, you enter the inside length and diameter.

Box suggestions and the 3D packaging preview account for each shape, so a mailer is recommended when it truly fits and a tube is used for long, narrow items. To add one, open Packaging and choose the new type when you create or edit an entry.

Trace every lot for a recall

The new Packed Lots export shows how much of each item was packed from each lot on shipments fulfilled in a date range, filtered by warehouse. Add order and customer columns to get one row per item, lot and order. If a supplier issues a recall, you can see exactly which customers received the affected lot in minutes.

Average costs you can trust

Units recorded with no cost, whether blank or $0, are now left out of weighted average cost instead of counting as free. That keeps the cost SKUSavvy sends to Shopify accurate, along with the per-warehouse average cost on each item and the cost given to new stock. When you merge duplicate items, uncosted units take on the known per-unit cost rather than diluting it.

SKUSavvy also tells you when a cost is missing. Order and transfer cost totals say they are incomplete when any packed unit has a $0 cost, and shipment contents show a dash instead of $0.00. Adjusting inventory on a record with no cost now warns you and prefills the suggested landed cost.

Customs values, your way

The customs declared value setting for international shipments is now a priority list. Choose from discounted retail price, retail price, vendor unit cost and weighted average cost, drag them into the order you want, and uncheck any you don't want used. Each item declares the first value above zero, so when one source is missing the next one takes over.

You find it under Settings > Customs Declaration, and Reset to default restores the standard order at any time. Discounts on Shopify orders now also scale to the units that remain after a refund or removal, so the discounted price on your customs forms stays accurate.

A closer match with Shopify

Inventory logs now show an icon on every change telling you whether it was sent to Shopify. Hover it to see why, for example a move within the warehouse that didn't change on-hand, or sync being turned off.

When an order is edited in Shopify after its shipment was batched, the replacement shipment now stays in the same batch, so picked units are not stranded. Deleted products and variants can be brought back with a Restore button, and items linked to Shopify can no longer be deleted from within SKUSavvy, which keeps your catalog in step with your store.

More useful exports

Inventory and order exports can now put each item's barcodes in separate Barcode 1, Barcode 2 and Barcode 3 columns, newest first, which is easier to work with in a spreadsheet. Order exports can also include each item's current retail price alongside the price on the order. For developers, orders created through the API can now be backdated to when they actually happened, which helps when bringing in order history.
