Sync Buildable Kit Quantities to Shopify

SKUSavvy adds the number of kits you could build from ingredients in stock to each kit product's inventory in Shopify. When an ingredient runs low, every kit that uses it drops in Shopify, so you stop selling kits you can't build.

To turn it on, go to Settings > Inventory, and under Enable Kitting switch on Sync buildable kit quantity. To leave a kit out, open the kit and untick Sync buildable quantity to Shopify.

Buildable units are a promise, not stock on a Shelf. Check each point below so Shopify doesn't promise kits you can't ship.

Every kit is included when you turn it on

Shopify receives every kit's buildable quantity within a few seconds, and kits you create later are included too. Decide which kits to leave out before you turn it on, so no unwanted quantities reach Shopify.

Ingredients sold on their own are promised twice

If an ingredient is also its own Shopify product, the same units count as that product's stock and inside every kit that uses it. Whichever sells first uses them up, and the other can oversell until the next update.

All ingredient stock in the Warehouse counts

Expired lots, stock in receiving or quarantine Bins, and unallocated stock all count toward the buildable quantity. If you keep stock you can't use in the Warehouse, it can make kits look buildable when they aren't.

Shopify's count for these kits can't be pulled back into SKUSavvy

Shopify's number for a synced kit includes buildable units, so it isn't a physical count. When you sync inventory from Shopify to SKUSavvy, these kit products are left unchanged. Count their physical stock in SKUSavvy with a cycle count or an adjustment instead.

Kits inside kits aren't expanded

If a kit uses another kit as an ingredient, only the inner kit's assembled stock counts. SKUSavvy doesn't add what the inner kit could build, so the outer kit can show fewer than you could make.

You can leave individual kits out while the rest keep syncing. Leave a kit out if any of these apply:

• You assemble it ahead of time. Your pre-built stock already counts, and buildable units would promise kits that take time to make.

• Its product is a Shopify bundle. Shopify already calculates a bundle's availability from its components, which SKUSavvy syncs, and it doesn't accept inventory updates for bundles.

• A bundle app manages its inventory. Two systems writing the same inventory keep overwriting each other.

• You need Shopify to be the source of truth for its stock.

What happens when you leave a kit out

Its buildable units are removed from Shopify within a few seconds, and its physical stock stays. The kit shows a dash in the Buildable column. If you include it again later, its current buildable quantity is added back.

Turning the feature off

Turning buildable kit sync off removes the buildable units from every kit in Shopify, and only physical stock remains. Turning off kitting also turns it off. Each kit's choice to be left out is kept for the next time you turn it on.

Shopify shows a kit product's physical stock plus its buildable quantity. The buildable quantity is worked out per Warehouse: for each ingredient, the stock on hand divided by the quantity the kit needs, and the lowest result wins. Picked and packed ingredients don't count, because they are set aside for other orders.

If several kits make the same product, Shopify gets the largest of their quantities, not the sum, because kits often share ingredients. SKUSavvy updates Shopify within a few seconds of any ingredient stock change or recipe edit.
